Qualifying:
France cruised into the tournament by claiming 23 points from a possible 30 courtesy of seven wins, two draws and a loss in a group featuring the likes of Sweden and Holland. The only blots on their copybook were a 0-0 draw with Belrus, a 2-1 defeat to Sweden and a 0-0 draw with Luxembourg.
Last time out:
2014 World Cup:
After taking seven of a possible nine points in the group stage and defeating Nigeria in the round of 16, France's challenge came to an end when they were defeated 1-0 by eventual champions Germany in the quarter-finals.
History:
France were one of just four European teams to compete in the inaugural World Cup in Uruguay in 1930. Since then, France have competed in 14 tournaments, failing to qualify for five and withdrawing in 1950. 'Les Bleus' have one World Cup title to their name, won on home soil in 1998. Though, more recently they did lose the 2006 final to Italy on penalties.
However, France are very much a nation of all or nothing and whilst they may have won the tournament in 1998 and reached the final in 2006, they followed that up by being dumped out in the first round in both 2002 (when they failed to score a goal) and 2010 (when they claimed a single point from a group that comprised of Mexico, South Africa and Uruguay).
Who will they face?
Didier Deschamps' men will open their campaign against Australia in Kazan on 16 June, before heading to Yekateringburg to face Peru five days later. France will finish their group-stage campaign with a potentially vital clash with Denmark at the Luzhniki in Moscow.
