Salah joined Liverpool in the summer for £39million and he is proving to be worth every penny, but he could have costed considerably less five years ago, when he was offered to several sides in the English top flight.
The forward, who has scored a stunning 18 league goals this season, instead moved to Swiss side Basle in 2012, only to earn an £11million move to Chelsea, where he was not granted the chances he expected. Spells in Italy, for Fiorentina and Roma, ultimately saw him return to England to shine for the Anfield outfit.
The newly-announced African Footballer of the Year, however, was offered to most Premier League clubs when still 20 years of age and playing at El Mokawloon. Agent Craig Honeyman revealed: "Off the top of my head, only Stoke and Hull showed any interest. (He) would have cost £2.5m."
The teams who rejected Salah will be kicking themselves after passing up the chance to land one of the stand-out footballers in Europe. And at what price.
