Heaton completed the full 90 minutes in a training game behind closed doors on Tuesday, making his first appearance for the 'Clarets' since he picked up an injury in September. He had dislocated his shoulder during a league game against Crystal Palace, with the injury sidelining him for five months.
It didn't all go exactly to plan, however, with the English keeper giving away a penalty within 60 seconds. He was unable to stop Jay Spearing's spot kick, but did not concede any more after that, the game ending 1-1.
Burnley's number one was a key performer last season, with the 31-year-old keeping 10 league clean sheets for Sean Dyche's side. That being said, his replacement Nick Pope has also impressed this season, keeping 11 clean sheets in 27 games in all competitions.
Heaton's return will please Gareth Southgate ahead of this summer's World Cup. The Burnley man has already picked up three caps for his country, and Southgate will be glad of the competition for the number one spot, with Joe Hart, Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland all in contention.
